Is PathLMS right for you?
Here is what PathLMS does not do yet. Read it once and you will know whether it fits, before you spend any time installing it.
The things PathLMS does not do are product limits, not features held back for a paid edition.
Courses and quizzes
- Quizzes have three kinds of question: pick one, pick several, and true or false. There is no written answer, no matching and no number answer.
- Nobody can mark work against a rubric or a marking guide.
- There is no forum and no way for people to talk to each other inside a course.
- There are no announcements. People get notifications instead.
- There is no wiki.
- There are no surveys and no feedback forms.
- There are no badges and no achievements.
- There are no competency frameworks.
- There is no calendar and there are no events.
- Nothing takes a payment. You cannot charge for a course.
People and accounts
- You cannot load a list of people from a spreadsheet. Accounts are made one at a time.
- People cannot sign themselves up for an account. Somebody has to make it for them. Once they have one, they can put themselves on a course.
Running it
- Backups run on their own, but moving one to a different machine is a job for somebody comfortable at a command line. There is no button for it yet.
- PathLMS runs as one copy on one server and cannot be spread across several servers.
- PathLMS is in English only.
- There is no phone app, but the website works on a phone.
- PathLMS is built to meet WCAG 2.2 AA, the usual accessibility standard. It has not been certified.
Connecting other systems
- You can take a course out of PathLMS as a file, but you cannot bring one in.
- There are no plugins or add-ons. What is here is what there is.
- There is no published way for another system to talk to PathLMS.
- PathLMS does not connect to other learning tools through LTI.
